DACCA STENUNGSUND COTTOVER CLOCKWISE COLLABORATIONS CONTROL New Wave Group has its own purchasing office with nearly fifty employees. Our own staff is present at the factory to ensure that set requirements are complied with in terms of quality as well as social and environmental aspects, and that there’s a flow through all stages of production. In addition to internal controls, the factory regularly undergoes independent social audits within the framework of the Amfori BSCI. New Wave Group is also a signatory to the International Accord, which means that the factory, among other things, undergoes electrical and building inspections as well as training and education in fire safety. Quality control The factories undergo quality controls as part of ensuring that they maintain a high standard and that all requirements are met. Quality checks are carried out several times in the chain. 1. Cultivating Cotton The organic cotton comes from a selection of small- scale cotton farmers in India who are paid fairly for their cotton. 2. GINNING Once the cotton has been picked it ends up in a local gin that separates the seeds, seed pods and other debris from the cotton fibres. The cotton batting represents only 32-35% of the plucked cotton bale. The rest is used for oil production and livestock feed, among other things. 3. Fiber from recycled polyester Used PET bottles are col- lected and cleaned before being ground into smaller parts and then melted down and made into pellets. The pellets are then turned into fibre. 4. SPINNING The raw materials are spun into yarn. The yarn is trans- ported by boat or truck to our partners in Bangladesh or India. 5. PRODUCTION Production is primarily in partner factories in Bangla- desh where we have strict control of conditions, se fact section below. 6. KNITTING / WEAVING The yarns are knitted and woven into fabric. The majority of the products are knitted fabrics. 7. DYEING / WASHING Fabrics are dyed and wet-processed with strict requirements on chemical use and water purification. 8. CUTTING / SEWING Fabrics are cut into pattern pieces and sewn together to make the final products. 9. IRONING / PACKING The products are ironed, folder and packed for further transport 10. Transport to SWEDEN The products are shipped by boat to Sweden and further by truck to Cottover’s ware- house in Stenungsund. 11. DISTRIBUTION ACROSS EUROPE The products are distributed among several sister com- panies within the New Wave Group across Europe, all of which are annually audited and certified by GOTS. Finally, the products end up at our retailers before they reach the end customer. The Accord is a five-year contract to improve safety in the Bangladeshi textile indus- try, focusing on building, electrical, and fire safety. Over two million textile workers are directly affected by the work of Accord, which is, therefore, one of our most important projects regarding social responsibilities. Visit www.mistrafuturefashion.com The Clean Shipping Index is an initiative aimed at encouraging shipping companies to use cleaner ships that are more environmentally friendly, in order to reduce chemical and greenhouse gas emissions into our oceans. Textile Exchange is an international organisation working for a responsible expansion of organic cotton farming. Today, the available supply of organic cotton is not enough to meet the rising demand. BSCI is an initiative for businesses that want to improve working conditions in the global supply chain. Their code of conduct is making demands on all members’ supp- liers, for example regarding wages and the prohibition of child labour, forced labour, and discrimination. 35 34
